SAN Miguel Beer tries to redeem itself from a pesky loss when it battles Titan Ultra in the main game of the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila.
The Beermen collide with the Giant Risers at 7:30 p.m.
San Miguel tasted its first defeat last Sunday, 96-110, against the rampaging NLEX team.
The defeat ended the Beermen’s three-game winning streak to begin the conference.
Beermen coach Leo Austria showed up for the first time in the conference but stayed behind the team bench, letting lead assistant Peter Martin call the shots.
The 11-time PBA champion coach has recently undergone an angioplasty procedure to address blocked heart arteries. His presence though was not enough to inspire the Beermen, who were dominated by the Road Warriors last weekend.
Rookie coach Jimmy Alapag, meanwhile, has guided NLEX to a 4-0 start this conference.
The Beermen will next face the Giant Risers who are still smarting from a 132-126 loss to the Macau Giant Pandas.
Import George King, Marcio Lassiter, Don Trollano and nine-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo will continue to lead the Beermen while CJ Perez could be a game-time decision after leaving the game with still undisclosed injury against NLEX.
San Miguel’s bench depth, though, is expected to play out against Titan Ultra, which hopes to get big games from import Tirell Brown, Joshua Munzon, Fran Yu and Jerrick Balanza.
In the other game, Terrafirma tries to build on its 111-106 overtime win against defending champion TNT when it battle Macau in the 5:15 p.m. curtain-raiser.
The team under coach Ronald Tubid enters the game carrying a mediocre 2-3 record.
Macau, on the other hand, is buoyed up by its first win in the conference, and will try to begin a win streak against Terrafirma.
The Giant Pandas opened the tournament with four consecutive losses.
