Jonatan Christie Moves Up to World No. 3 in Latest BWF Rankings

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Jonatan Christie climbed one place to world No. 3 in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) men's singles rankings released on Tuesday, while rising youngster Moh Zaki Ubaidillah broke into the world's top 25.

Jonatan now has 89,231 ranking points, overtaking Denmark's Anders Antonsen, who dropped to fourth with 87,705 points, according to the BWF's Week 31 rankings.

The 28-year-old's rise came after reaching the quarterfinals of the 2026 China Open in Changzhou last week.

However, Jonatan's campaign ended in the last eight after a straight-games defeat to Canada's Victor Lai, losing 14-21, 17-21 on Friday. The result marked his second consecutive loss to Lai, following his defeat in the 2026 Indonesia Open final.

Despite the setback, Jonatan remains Indonesia's highest-ranked men's singles player and now sits behind only Shi Yu Qi of China, who leads the rankings with 94,255 points, and Thailand's Kunlavut Vitidsarn, who is second with 91,215 points.

France's Christo Popov stayed fifth with 87,002 points, while 2026 China Open champion Chou Tien Chen of Taiwan remained sixth after increasing his tally to 84,280 points.

Victor Lai climbed one place to seventh with 77,045 points following his semifinal run at the China Open.

China's Li Shi Feng slipped to eighth with 70,483 points, followed by France's Alex Lanier in ninth on 70,215 points. Japan's Kodai Naraoka rounded out the top 10 with 70,030 points.

Alwi Misses Top 10 Return

Fellow Indonesian Alwi Farhan remained 11th in the world with 69,419 points, just 611 points behind Naraoka.

The 21-year-old narrowly missed a return to the top 10 after suffering a first-round exit at the China Open, where he lost 17-21, 21-5, 17-21 to India's Ayush Shetty.

Alwi had previously broken into the world's top 10 after winning the 2026 Australian Open, but slipped one place following early exits at the Japan Open and China Open.

Ubaidillah Reaches Career-High Ranking

Indonesia's teenage prospect Moh Zaki Ubaidillah, better known as Ubed, climbed one place from No. 26 to No. 25, reaching a career-high ranking with 46,291 points.

The 19-year-old earned valuable ranking points after reaching the round of 16 at the Japan Open, his debut appearance in a BWF Super 750 tournament. He did not compete at last week's China Open.

Ubaidillah will have another opportunity to improve his ranking at the Taipei Open 2026, a BWF Super 300 event taking place from July 28 to August 2.
